John Warner was born
February 18, 1927. John Warner lives in
Alexandria, Virginia and has three grown
children and two grandchildren.
He has been a public
servant in seven different positions. he was in
the Navy during World War II. Then
he went to Washington and Lee University.
He got a degree in Basic Engineering
Sciences. Then he went to the
University of Virginia Law School.
During the Korean War,
he joined the Marine Corps. He stayed in the
Reserves for 10 years. He went back
to study for his law degree at UVa.
In 1953, he was appointed
Assistant U.S. Attorney for four years. Then
he was in private law practice in 1960.
He was appointed as Under Secretary
of the Navy in 1969. During the
Vietnam War, he served inthe Department of
Defense for over five years.
He was confirmed by
the U.S. Senate to a position representing the
Executive branch in a wide range of bicentennial
programs 1974-76.
In 1978, he was elected
to the U.S. Senate. He has served four six-year
terms. For eight years, 1987-95,
Senator Warner served on the Senate
Intelligence Committee. In 1998,
he was selected as Chairman to the Senate
Armed Services Committee. He is
also the second most senior Republican
member of the Environment and Public Works
Committee, and a member of the
Senate Committee on Rules and Administration.
