Project Title:  A Look at Student Outcomes: A Social Studies Technology Research Project

    Description:
The genesis of this study is that preparation of good teachers has never been
more important or challenging than it is today. This call for more effective instruction reflects
lessons learned from more than a decade of educational reform efforts that began during the
1990’s. These attempts at improving teaching and learning led to the conclusion that
improvements in America’s schools require changes in recruiting, preparing and supporting
teachers (U.S. Department of Education, 1996; U.S. Department of Education, 2000).

Concurrent to this effort, the changing demographics of the national student body and increasing
expectations for all students have also led us, as a country, to demand more of teachers. As
such, today’s prospective teachers not only need a strong background in content knowledge
and skills but also an ability to use at-hand technology to convey an expanding information base
to a diverse student population in increasingly challenging classrooms.
