About Us

This website was developed by fifth year students in the Mathematics Education program at the University of Virginia. The University of Virginia offers a five-year dual-degree (BA/MT) teacher education program. At the end of five years students graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and a Master of Teaching degree. The students collaboratively worked together developing this website for their Masters thesis project in the spring semester of 2000.

Odds is a ratio obtained either from the number of ways  the events could occur and could fail to occur, or from the probabilities  of the complementary events (Gerver, 1997, p. 117).
