Objectives:

·        Student will construct a line that bisects a given angle using Geometer’s Sketchpad.

·        Student will construct a perpendicular line when given a line segment and a point not on the line segment using Geometer’s Sketchpad.

·        Student will construct a line that bisects a given line segment using Geometer’s Sketchpad.

·        Student will construct a perpendicular line when given a line segment and a point on the line segment using Geometer’s Sketchpad.

Materials:

·        Computer Lab

·        Geometer’s Sketchpad 4.0

·        Worksheet #2: Formal Construction

Procedures:

1.      With a partner, students will complete each construction in two ways (short and long version).

Worksheet:

2.      Students will construct a ray that bisects a given angle.

3.      Students will construct a perpendicular line when given a line segment and a point not on the line.

4.      Students will construct a line that bisects a line segment.

5.      Students will construct a perpendicular line when given a line segment and a point on the line.

Assessment:
It is crucial that the students justify why these formal constructions work. Create a test or quiz similar to the worksheet. You can have some steps missing where students will be asked to fill it in. 

Suggestions/Comments (if applicable):
The lower level Geometry might have trouble answering the questions. Make sure you give hints and help them as much as you can. Students should help each other out.
