T.J. on His Birthday

I'm Matt Golenor, author of Golenor's Geometry Gala.  Currently, I'm a 5th year student at the University of Virginia earning a Master's in Secondary Mathematics and a Bachelor's in Mathematics.  Amazingly enough, I do have time for outside interests when I'm not studying Geometry!  I was a UVA Varsity Cheerleader for 4 years.  I play a mean harmonica and I am also an avid boomerang thrower.  I hope you enjoy and learn a lot from my Gala!

WHY THE GALA?

Golenor's Geometry Gala was composed as my thesis project as part of my graduation requirements from the University of Virginia.  I wanted to create an interactive Geometry website that was useful to me, my students and other teachers.  In providing a multimedia study tool I hope to intrigue learners of all types.  For the visual learner, I have the Geometry movies.  I added sound descriptions to the movies to help those who learn best by hearing.  For those who prefer to interpret verbal descriptions I included the theorems that correspond to the movies.  Lastly, the kinesthetic or hands-on learner may investigate the concepts using the sketches.  For learners like me, they will benefit from the multiple representation.  The advantage of Golenor's Geometry Gala  being on-line is that it can be accessed at school or at home.  I hope teachers use the project in their classrooms as a supplemental resource.  I encourage students to use it at home as a study tool.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Although I completed this project myself, I have many people to thank for helping me:

For helping me develop my idea and monitoring my progress I must give many thanks to my advisors Dr. Joe Garofalo and Dr. Maria Timmerman.

For helping me with the web page design I would like to thank Elaine Bartley, Jason Bayers and Phillip Molebash.  Each of your contributions is greatly appreciated.

For keeping me motivated and encouraging me every step of the way, I would like to thank my classmates, Colleen Higgins, Kristen Mohl and Kathryn Moses.  We've come a long way together and I'll miss you all.  Keep in touch.

Lastly, I need to give the greatest thanks to Suzanne Harper.  She was instrumental in the construction of this site.  I could not have finished without your help.  Thank you for being there for me all the time and for sharing your resources and ideas.  I will never forget your generosity and kindness.  I wish you the best of luck.
